How Chiropractic Can Help

Headaches and Migraines

Millions of people have headaches regularly. An estimated 50 million people in the United States have long-lasting, recurring headaches. Overall, 15-20% of men and 25-30% of women suffer from headaches. There are a number of causes of headaches. They include neck strain from Forward Head Posture, low blood sugar, dehydration, high blood pressure, temporomandibular joint dysfunction, drug reactions, stress, and fatigue. The majority of headaches are tension headaches (also called cervicogenic). Research shows that 90% of these headaches are caused by subluxations in the cervical spine (misalignments of the vertebrae).

How Chiropractic Can Help

Neck pain

Neck pain is a common complaint experienced by many people. It can range from a dull ache to excruciating pain. It can be localized to the neck, or it can radiate into the arms and hands (radiculopathy). It can impact blood flow to the brain and lead to headaches and migraines. At Chiropractic Arts Center of Austin, P.C., we are focused on getting to the cause of the problem so that we can help correct it, not merely mask the symptoms.

How Chiropractic Can Help

Shoulder pain

The shoulder is by far the most mobile joint in the body which means a lot can go wrong. Shoulder pain is a common complaint, usually the result of overuse or injury. Persistent shoulder pain or decreased mobility of the shoulder should be evaluated to determine the cause of the problem. We almost always find that there is the involvement of the cervical spine with shoulder problems. This is because the nerves that supply the shoulder and the arm exit from the cervical spine.

How Chiropractic Can Help

Tennis Elbow

Pain of the outside of the elbow, known as Tennis Elbow, is a tendonitis and is called Lateral Epicondylitis. The cause of this condition is repetitive overuse of the extensor muscles of the forearm. The injury occurs where the tendons of the forearm attach to the bony knob on the outside of the elbow. The pain primarily occurs where the tendons attach, but the pain can also extend from the outer elbow into the forearm and wrist. Tennis elbow is most common in adults between the ages of 30 and 50, but can affect people of any age.

Carpal Tunnel

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a huge occupational problem today, largely due to our increased use of computers. It affects millions of people a year. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome occurs from overuse- usually from excessive typing, using the mouse, and other repetitive tasks. The symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome include wrist pain, tingling, numbness, and even loss of hand grip strength. These repetitive tasks cause swelling and pressure on the median nerve which results in the pain, tingling and numbness.

How Chiropractic Can Help

Lower Back pain

Low back pain is one of the most common ailments to afflict humans. In fact, it is the leading cause of disability worldwide and the second most common reason people visit a doctor. Approximately half of all adults every year will have recurrent episodes of low back pain. Low back pain can be devastating to a person’s ability to live a normal life, and often leads to depression, even more so than other spinal problems.

How Chiropractic Can Help

Sciatica

The sciatic nerve is the longest nerve in your body. The sciatic nerve exits the lumbar spine down into the buttock, then branches into smaller nerves as it travels down the legs into the feet. It provides feeling to your thighs, legs, and feet and controls many of the muscles in your lower legs. Sciatica is very specific nerve problem that involves radiating pain from the lumbar spine (low back) to your buttock and down the back of the leg. Sciatic nerve pain can vary widely, from a mild ache to a sharp, burning sensation. Sciatic pain often starts gradually and intensifies over time. It is more likely to be worse when one sits, coughs or sneezes due to the increase in intradiscal pressure.

Sciatic nerve pain usually indicates that there is a problem in the lower lumbar spine and it is often a more severe condition than uncomplicated low back pain.

How Chiropractic Can Help

Knee Pain

Knee pain is among the most common type of joint pain experienced by Americans of all ages. It can affect anyone - not just runners, skiers, or other athletes. There are many causes of knee pain with varying degrees of severity. Knee pain is one of the top causes of joint disability affecting people in the United States. Women tend to have more knee problems than men because they have a greater “Q” angle, the measurement between the outer pelvis and the knee cap. This angle increases during puberty as the pelvis widens and causes stress on the medial (inside) of the knee in women and girls, especially athletes.

How Chiropractic Can Help

Foot pain

The foot is the foundation of support for your entire body. Proper foot alignment is essential for your body to function as it should. The foot is made up of 28 bones, 30 joints and more than 100 muscles, tendons, and ligaments, all of which must work together to provide support, balance and mobility.

While a nerve irritation or compression in your low back can cause foot pain, this is not usually the case. Some common causes of foot pain include plantar fasciitis, metatarsalgia, sesamoiditis, neuromas, neuropathy, sprains and strains, and bunions. Adjustments of the foot or ankle can help restore alignment, proper function and alleviate pain. Cold Laser can help accelerate healing and reduce inflammation and pain. Frequently, better shoes and/or orthotics are also needed to fully resolve the problem.
