Have you ever heard that once you go to a chiropractor, you have to keep going, or that you can become addicted to adjustments? Well, it’s simply not true that you have to keep going once you have been adjusted. You cannot become addicted to chiropractic adjustments. And adjustments do not in any way weaken your spine so that you require them in the future. However, you can become addicted to feeling good and that is a very good thing. Once people return to a state of health and vitality, they no longer find it acceptable to live with chronic discomfort, pain, or diminished function. This is why most of our patients choose corrective chiropractic care so that we correct the underlying cause of their problem. And spinal correction and healing do take time, depending on the severity of the condition, how long it has been there, and the extent of spinal degeneration present.
After optimal correction of the spinal distortions and subluxations (misalignments) have occurred, most of our patients choose regular wellness adjustments to maintain their good health. I have personally been receiving regular chiropractic adjustments for over 35 years and I continue to get adjusted every week! It’s not for pain, it’s for health.
We now know from research how important it is to exercise regularly, eat nutritious food, get enough sleep and drink plenty of water. So, if you do these things and you feel great, why would you stop doing the very things that result in good health? If you get a great report from your dentist, do you stop brushing, flossing, and going for check-ups? The same factors are at work with chiropractic care. It is so true that “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”.
Subluxations tend to re-occur when we are subjected to physical, mental, and toxic stressors. We sit too much, we don’t always eat the best quality food, we bump our heads, we overwork in our yards, we don’t exercise consistently. The bottom line is that life is full of stressors, and we humans are prone to spinal subluxations when we are overloaded. This occurs much like the circuit breaker which is tripped when there is an overload on the system. When we are subluxated from an overload, it results in interference of the healthy transmission of nerve impulses from the brain to every single cell in the body. This can result in not only pain but dysfunction of the immune system, digestion, heart, lungs, kidneys, reproduction, and more.
Our approach at the Chiropractic Arts Center of Austin is to give our patients the optimal recommendations, including the appropriate corrective care and then, wellness care. Ultimately, the choice is yours, whether you choose the long-term benefits of chiropractic care or short-term relief care. You are in charge. It’s your body, your life, your money, and we respect and support your right to choose what is right for you.
